How Candles and Cannabis Helps me as an Overstimulated Mom

Motherhood is loud, it's messy, it's chaotic.
Not just the crying, the toys crashing, the constant "can I have a snack?" But the mental noise, the never-ending to-do list, the invisible load that nobody sees, and that feeling from the moment you wake up and open your eyes, you belong to everyone else. Some days, I don’t even realize how far away from myself I’ve drifted until the house is finally quiet and I feel completely drained, touched out, and disconnected from the woman I was before I became a mom.
That’s where my small grounding rituals for overstimulated mothers come into play - not elaborate or unrealistic, just two simple things that help me come back home to myself: Cannabis and candles.
Cannabis For Stress Release

For me, cannabis is not about escaping my life; it’s about returning to it with a calmer nervous system. After a long day of overstimulation, decision fatigue, and constant caregiving, my mind is still racing. I’m still in “go mode” long after the kids are asleep, and cannabis gives me permission to slow down.
It helps me:
Release the tension, I didn’t realize I was holding
Quiet the mental chatter
Step out of survival mode
Feel present in my own body again
It creates a pause, a reset, a moment where I can actually hear my own thoughts and feel my own emotions without the noise of the day drowning them out. It’s in those moments that I reconnect with me — not the mom, not the business owner, not the wife — just me.
Candles for Relaxation
Lighting a candle is such a small action, but for me, it’s incredibly powerful. The second I strike the lighter and see that small flame, something shifts. A candle is a signal, a reminder to breathe, a reminder to slow down, and a reminder that this moment can be calm, even if the rest of the day wasn’t. Throughout the day, even during the chaos — kids crying, toys everywhere, dinner half made — that flickering flame becomes an anchor. A visual cue that I can take one deep breath before reacting. It brings warmth, coziness, and comfort - a sense of grounding in the middle of the chaos. It’s like a simple action that feels like I can create little pockets of peace inside a very busy life.
The Grounding Ritual that Brings me Back
When I pair the two together, it becomes a ritual. I retreat to consume a little cannabis, return to light a candle, take a deep breath, and allow myself to land back into my body.
No phone. No rushing. No multitasking.
Just a few intentional minutes where I reconnect with my body, my breath, and my thoughts.
When I return to my family after that, I’m softer, more patient, more present, more myself.
Realistic Self-care as an Overwhelmed Mom

Not a spa day.hours alone or something perfect. Just simple tools that help me regulate my nervous system, ground my energy, and remember that I am still a whole person inside motherhood. The combination of cannabis and candles helps me as an overstimulated mom by allowing me to come back to myself, and helps me stay connected to that feeling throughout the day. And honestly? Those tiny moments make me a better mom, because when I feel calm, grounded, and connected… my home feels that way too.
Until the next session my friends,
xoxo,
Brandy
